The Kalu ganga is one of the four majoir rivers that start from the Sri Phada mountain. This river can be seen at several places on the Rajamawatha,Ratnapura palabaddala road Which was the main road during the Sripa karuna period from ancient times. This river is very useful to man in the first place to quench the thirst and fatigue of the devotees who go on the pilgrimage to Sri padasthana. It reaches the city of Ratnapura by feeding on many wetlands such as Sri palabaddala and Gilimale. Batugedara bridge is the first large bridge over the kalu ganga. It is built on the Ratnapura -  Embilipitiya main road. The Muwagama Bridge is the second bridge is the second bridge over the kalu ganga flowing through the city center of Ratnapura. I think the city if Ratnapura and the surrounding area are flooded during heavy rains to hide the precious gems hidden in the ground. It is a blessing of princess Kuluganga that the most precious gems in the world has gems in the world has emrged from the land of Ratnapura.  

From Ratnapura town you have to enter our village through the Haraniyawaka bridge across the Kalu river. The annual sumana saman Devalaya perahera mangalya water cutting Festival is also held in the Malwala Thota area of the Kalu ganga. Legend has it that the upper courtyard of the devalaya was never Submerged,despite the overflowing of the Kalu Ganga near the Saman Devalaya. The kalu Ganga is fed by a large number of tributaries such as the Kuruganga and the Hangamuwa Ganga. I think the Ella behind the Theda Pattini  Devalaya in the dumbara valley is  the most beautiful place on the river. The river is often referred to as the black River Because of its black color. The kalu Ganga, which flows through Idangoda, Horana, Anguruwatota and Uggalbada, kisses the sea near the Kalutara estuary, producing the rich as well as the millionaires of Ratnapura.
