Gamehi Mudunaa Kukulaaya.

 

Kukulugala or Horana kanda, marked 1531m feet above the Sabaragamuwa mountains on the map of Srilanaka, is located in our village. It is a mountain of rare trees & many valuable medicinal plants. ornamental aquatic plants as well as rare fish such as endemic Paadiyaa, Thippiliya & Bulath hapaya can be seen in the streams flowing from all four directions.

Legend has it that Lord Buddha came to place the Siripa mark on the mountain but did not place the it on the rock at the top of the mountain because a rooster was crowing. Legend has it that the first word was added to the name of our village because of Theexistence of a terrifying species of endangered cow called gavaraa on this mountain.

This mountain is home to deer, buffaloes, rabbits, pigs & ittewan. Ritigas Falls is a scenic waterfall. Makunupath stream, kaluwadiriya stream, Raigamkanda stream are  the beautiful waterfalls in ouer village, Sabaragamuwa province.

  Miyunu falls is a beautiful waterfall known not only in the Sabaragamuwa Province but also in the whole island. This waterfall was inherited by Kukulugala kanda. at foot of the hill a dam is built at Thummodara where three streams meet in the lowlands & the network feeds of the village itself poetry classes written by Meemana Pemathilaka,a veteran poet & writer of the colombo era, showcase the wonders of miyunu Alla.

Although kukulugala kanda has been designated as a Highly protected Area, I urge all villagers to protect the forest from destruction due to human activities.
